Web address monitoring step 1
Web address monitoring
Know about lookalike web addresses before your customers do
A web address similar to yours could already be registered. It might be inactive today. Tomorrow, it could host a copied website, send fraudulent emails or capture customer information.
The TLD Project monitors for potential lookalike domains so you find them first, not your customers.

What we look for
The TLD Project monitors for web addresses that resemble yours, including:
- Common misspellings or missing letters
- Added terms such as “support”, “secure”, “account” or a location
- Hyphenated and reordered versions of your name
- Alternative extensions (.com, .net, .co.uk and over 1,500 others)
- Similar-looking character substitutions (e.g. replacing an “l” with a “1”)
The value is in finding it early
Most businesses discover a fraudulent web address after the damage is done, a customer spots it, an invoice is queried or a phishing email has already been received.
Monitoring changes that. It gives you earlier awareness of possible lookalikes, so you can investigate without the pressure of an active incident. A domain registered today may sit idle for weeks before it becomes a threat. That window is your advantage, but only if you can see it.
Review, dismiss or investigate
When a potential match is identified, you decide what happens next:
- Review the finding and its details
- Dismiss if it’s harmless or irrelevant
- Investigate if it warrants a closer look
Monitoring identifies possible matches. It does not assume every similar domain is malicious — you stay in control of the decision.
Hopefully, you only need the monitoring tool
We hope your business never faces a domain impersonation attempt. But web address monitoring means you don’t have to wait for a customer complaint, a fraudulent email or a copied website to discover that something similar to your business is online.
Don’t let an “I didn’t know” become an “if only we’d seen it sooner.”

If a monitored domain becomes an active threat, the takedown workflow helps you gather evidence and prepare a structured report.
Pre-register for early access
The TLD Project is now in early release, giving businesses — including those currently facing a live impersonation attack — access to tools that help them add and monitor their websites for fake web addresses, gather evidence, and prepare takedown reports.
Early release registration gives you early access.
